“Shunt screws replacement kit” consist of two steel screws (with 3/8″ – 16 UNC thread) and two “schnorr” safety spacers.
Background:
On a few FES gliders, some originally installed screws – from brass material torn off in a few cases, possibly due to excessive tightening torque or material issue.
To make this screw connection more robust and reliable, Schempp-Hirth issued Technical Notes: TN 627-8, TN 825-59, TN 863-26 for Discus 2c FES, Ventus 3 FES and Ventus 2cxa FES, with relevant Working Instructions.
On 22.April 2024, EASA issued SIB (Safety Information Bulletin) No.: 2024-07, about this issue.
We would like to encourage to replace two original brass bolts on all FES glider types!
During replacement, use small amount of thread-locker adhesive Loctite 243 or similar on thread of new screw. Use 14mm size key and apply 17Nm of torque for tightening.
